Change can be a positive or a negative. Some of us hate change, some of us appreciate it. But change is inevitable in life, and it's how you respond to it that makes you better. I have been writing using virtually the same style for years. In the first couple weeks of college, I had to completely change that style to write a microtheme on a single page. However, I embraced that change in order to make myself a better writer.
Reading over the requirements for the microtheme assignment was confusing to me, to say the least. Everything I had learned from teachers over the years was irrelevant when it came to this assignment. I couldn't make a debatable claim or use direct evidence, but instead had to ask an open-ended question which was "although swearing is considered wrong, why do we do it?" The one page limit was also a change, and I honestly loved that considering other professors want papers at a 10 page length. After reading through examples, peer review, and multiple draft revisions, I wrote something that worked.
Having to change how I wrote was tough. But I stuck with it and adapted my writing style. The more ways I can write, the better my skills get. Looking over the Microsamples was a big help to this process. Hopefully in the end I get a good grade on my microtheme; it would be pretty embarrassing after I wrote all this if I don't.

I agree that most essays I've written before this did not follow the same structure. It was hard to adjust at first, but after finishing my paper, I liked how it turned out. This project has definitely changed my perspective and shown me that change can be good.
