It wasn't like I forgot I had to complete a blog entry for every week, I just really didn't want to. One of many things these past few weeks I've decided to put off and kick down the road. This obviously isn't helpful to me, especially in college where procrastinating on work is already five times more difficult than in high school where I easily took advantage of lax scheduling and due dates. As I watch the Saints and Buccaneers brawl against each other in a giant pile of chaos, I realize maybe I should get work done on time, so I don't have to stress on weekends.
This is the third weekend in a row where I've been stressing to get work done before another week starts up again. I do have to say, I cruise under pressure and deliver results, but this is not a sustainable way of conducting business. Just last weekend, I somehow read (skimmed through) 105 pages of an Abraham Lincoln memoir (can't say I remember anything I read) and did 3 pages of annotations on it. Yes, very impressive, but I couldn't enjoy college football gameday. I still watched a couple games simultaneously, but that prolonged getting everything done. But what was I supposed to do? Read some incredibly boring memoir all day? Absolutely not. Procrastination is doing me more harm than good, but it's such a tough habit to kick, especially when my days get so busy. Sometimes you have no choice but to procrastinate, but I'd like to try to reduce the urge going forward. Reading an interesting article, which I will leave below, opened my eyes to how destructive chronic procrastination can be. I must do better.
Now that I'm no longer in high school, I think it's time I start managing my time better so that I have a greater chance of success. The college workload is slowly forcing me to ditch my procrastination habit for the sake of my own sanity, but I can't say that with total confidence just yet.

" I cruise under pressure and deliver results, but this is not a sustainable way of conducting business." Such a good lesson to learn, and almost always challenging!
ReplyDeleteProcrastination is always an issue for me as well. I would always cruse on by in high school and turn in my assignments late for English. Now there is much more pressure in college. College has no exceptions for late assignments and procrastination isn't going to help.
