It's hard to believe that I've reached the halfway point in my first semester of college! Time has been flying now that I've gotten into my routine. However, much of my time lately has been consumed with studying for midterm exams. Studying for hours at a time was wearing me out, so I began to take lengthy breaks to relieve some stress. I found that balancing my time between school and life was extremely beneficial to my wellbeing.
For the longest time as a student, I had always sat down to do homework and expected myself to get it all done in a single sitting with the reward being liberation from stress. It took me until college to realize that's not doing me any good. With that being said, I decided to change my ways. After reading an article that popped up in my recommended about creating a balanced routine, I made an attempt to channel that advice into my own life. While working on a lengthy assignment earlier this week, I got up from my desk and went to my friend's dorm for a little while which took my mind off the work. Stated in the article, setting aside free time will help get me to break my typical habits, which frees the mind. Rewind a few months ago facing the same scenario, I would've stayed in my room and finished the work before leaving to go out. Although the work may be completed, it's likely flawed because I'm exhausted. Coming back to the assignment, my brain was refreshed and I was able to complete it with greater ease. The next day, I did a decent amount of studying before working out. Since I prioritized getting some work done before exercising, I was able to make time for two things without sacrificing anything.
Going forward, I will do my very best to balance my routine. That means prioritizing tasks, taking breaks, and setting aside free time so that I can ensure my productivity and wellbeing are not negatively impacted by the habits of a flawed routine.
How To Balance Your Time & Create A Flexible Routine
I agree that doing homework all in one sitting isn't good whether its as soon as the assignment is given or right before its due. Spreading out my work is a chore, but its definitely better than doing it all at once, especially when I'm studying.
ReplyDeleteI heavily agree with your method of studying. When I would study I'd go straight to my room and study until 11pm and go to bed. But occasionally I would give myself a break in between subjects and greatly improved my efficiency.
